Goodbye Dixon!

Dixon Solid Clue lovingly called Baby Dixon, left us to join God's Great Heard, February 3, 2012. He was a horse still in the prime of his life. He died of a sudden, unexpected case of colic, caused by a displaced colon.
In the years that Dixon was with me, he taught me that patience and persistence always win out over pushiness or harshness. When I thought I knew everything about training horses, he taught me how to be humble. The lessons and love he shared with me will be with me forever as he joins the heard of memories that run runs through the hole in my heart.
Although I grieve for him now, the memories he has left me hold me strong in my convictions and the lessons he taught me reach out and touch the heart of others.
Goodbye my Baby Dixon!

First Place for the Wagon in the Beaverton Parade

We received the first place ribbon for the wagon!
The theme was "Just Imagine..."

" Just Imagine... A World Without Abuse!"

Pictures of the girls and their horses adorned the signs and the sides of the wagon.

Summer Activities 2011

We are playing musical pastures with some horses, pulling tansy from our fields and cutting blackberry bushes and getting ready for hay bucking season.

Our Pony/Horse Rides are taking place every Saturday from 12-2:00pm, $3 per rider.
We have fabulous obstacle courses set up for the Pony/Horse Rides.

Don't forget, we do Pony Parties for those special occasions! Two hours of pony riding fun, includes helmets, spotters, snacks and drinks as well as table cloths and plates. And best of all, we do the clean up! All for $200.00 (10 riders or less).

Back To R&R New Options

April, 2009

I would first like to apologize for taking so long to update this newsletter. We have been moving from our barn in Gresham to a 30 acre pasture with enough room for 25 geldings. It has a barn, and we have set up a round pen for training. We only have it for 6 months, but that is lots of time for training and finishing. New pictures coming soon of great horses up for adoption.

Ekushawah and Little Bear were recently gelded. Our latest rescue Pearl who has been adopted by Dawna has put on 180 pounds and is on her way to becoming the beautiful horse that Dawna believed her to be. We have weaned her baby and he is now living with the geldings. Both Bear and Pearl are well into their training and we are so proud of their progress. Pearl will even drop her head so Dawna can put her halter on.

Spring season is coming. We are open for lessons, pony parties and wagon rides up the scenic Columbia River Gorge. All proceeds go to saving these noble beasts. God bless your. See you next month.

VOLUNTEER CORNER

Hi, I am Dawna the newest volunteer. I originally found out about R & R New Options for a dear friend of mine. She is a horse lover and wanted a good winter project to do. R & R New Options has over 50 rescue horses. Some of these will be ready to be adopted out this spring.

One day I had nothing to do, so I decided to go help my friend at the barn. Four months later I am still going to the barn. I had a horse growing up but thought I was one of those girls born in the country who should have been born in the city. Being back in the barn with the horses has awaked many old sweet memories. I am totally in heaven when I am there and have been teased that if there was a bed there I would never leave!

The women who run this organization are some of the most wonderful women on the face of this earth. They work total miracles with these starved, abused and unwanted horses. Pearl and her colt Little Bear are the first rescue horses to come to the barn since I have been there. I have adopted both of them. More about them in the next news letter.

I am Alyssa Carman and I volunteer for R & R New Options. I have been helping out for six months. When I come out I get to feed and pet the horses. Sometimes I get to ride them. By coming out I have earned a real horse. His name is Ibn Shahad, but we call him Ibn. He is chestnut with two socks and a blaze. I really love him and all the other horses. Aunt Les has taught me so much about horses, like how to take card of them and how to be a good rider. If it was not for all the amazing people here, I just would not be the same person I am today.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

HORSE TREATS

APPLE MUFFINS

3 cups Oatmeal

3 cups Whole Wheat Flour

1/4 cup Molasses

1½ cup Water

¾ cup grated Apple

Preheat oven to 350. Mix all ingredients in the order listed.

Fill a lightly greased muffin tin about 2/3 full. Bake for 20 minutes.

Hint: If you make these in large quantities as we do remember to refrigerate as our weather starts to warm up.
